So with the British Drift Championship coming to a close with an epic event at Teeside. We took the trip up North to catch up with the main man of Slide Motorsport Matt Stevenson. Racinglines have supported The Slide Motorsport Drift Team throughout the 2017 season. Having cars competing in all aspects of the UK and Ireland Drift Scene including Drift Cup, British Drift Championship Pro AM & Pro and Irish Drift Championship. Firstly thank you for taking some time out of your busy schedule to give us some insight into what it us like competing in the top flight of Drifting in the UK. 1. Becoming a Racing Driver, were there any unexpected benefits?
One thing that has really taken me by surprise is all the friends you make along the way. That is definitely an unexpected benefit. 2. Becoming a Racing Driver, were there any unexpected challenges?
Making sure the car is back out there and ready for each event. Making sure the cars are looking good and doing a good job representing the sponsors even after big crashes or unexpected financial drains. 3. Looking back to when you started, how did you see this journey originally taking you?
When I first started out, I started drifting purely for fun. But I purposely make sure I still have a lot of fun regardless of the level I am competing at. 4. Think about another person in the same situation as you were in when you started. Given what you know now, what advice would you give them?
Seat Time, Seat Time and More Seat Time. Don’t get in the spiral of needing to compete or needing to chase sponsors. Just keep it fun! 5. If you were going to start this over again, what three things would you do differently?
To be honest, not a great deal. I am pretty happy with the route I have taken. 6. Why did you choose to work with Racinglines?
I got chatting to James and Lewis at Rockingham at an event. Both our companies wanted similar things and to head in similar directions so it would have been mad not to strike up a partnership. Thanks again Matt for your time, be sure to check out the Slide Motorsport guys, they have an amazing facility and also are an Authorised Distributor of Racinglines Products.
